Our Top Ten Favorites From Smoky Mountain F-Body Fest 2024

We sat our sights on Tennessee Saturday to Smokies Stadium in Kodak, Tennessee(Sevierville/Pigeon Forge region) to the 1st ever Smoky Mountain F-Body Fest presented by the East Coast F-Body Alliance.

The Smoky Mountain F-body fest was open to all year Chevrolet Camaro’s as well as Pontiac Trans Am/Firebirds. As defined by GM, The “F-Body” is General Motors rear wheel drive car platform from 1967 to 2002. The show was also open to 5th and 6th gen Camaro’s as well as an “open class” for other GM vehicles. We set out early on in the parking lot to hunt out our top ten favorites. It wasn’t easy, there was a lot of nice cars, but here is the ten we came up with as our favorites!

Before we get into the top ten, we wanted to talk about JD’s choice. He participated in the kids choice award presented by Summit Racing. He picked Terry & Tammy Taylor’s 1968 Pontiac Firebird. That big 871 blower sure is an attention getter!

Number 10 on our list goes to Gary & Linda Bostic’s gorgeous 1979 Y88 Trans Am. Y88 is the option code for the special gold edition. The Y88 was a limited production, one-year-only special edition of the Pontiac Trans Am in 1978. It featured gold paint, gold-tinted glass T-tops, gold wheels, and a gold-tinted dash bezel.

Coming in at number nine is a special edition 1999 Firehawk. Modified by SLP, the Firehawk was a special edition Trans Am than ran from 1991 all the way to 2002 with the exception of 1998.

It was hard not to walk by #8 on our list and not feel your inner bald eagle wanna scream. This USA themed crazy custom paint job just screamed look at me! In fact it took us a couple trips by the car to get a chance to photo it without other people around! Ken Shultes(we apologize we could not read the first name on the card) 1999 Trans Am is certainly a work of art!

Coming in at #7 on our list is a nice stock example of Chevrolet’s modern super muscle car, the ZL1. This is Joseph Johnson’s 2022 Chevrolet Camaro. With a factory supercharger and 650 horse power, this car demands respect!

Coming in at #6, it was that legendary Lingenfelter name plate on the windshield banner that drew us to this read beauty. This one is also owned by Joseph Johnson, the owner of the blue ZL1 at #7. I am not going to claim to be a Lingenfelter or even a Camaro expert, but this car being naturally aspirated has to be pretty rare and unique.

We forgot to get the year on this one but we found our #5 car belonging to Cale Parrott at the Croftgate USA booth. While this may look like a trailer queen, do not mistake it for one! Cale drives and enjoys his car! He actually led a group of show participants on a mountain cruise on Friday at the event! I mean, what’s not to love about a gorgeous t-top IROC Z ?

Coming in at #4 on our list is this gorgeous green 1974 Camaro. I’ll be honest, it made me take a double take I automatically assumed it was the more popular 70-73 variant. You usually do not see a 74 and up modified to this extent. The owner, Paul Kirard did an amazing job on this one. Powered by and LS3 bolted to a manual transmission, this one looks like its set up to enjoy and drive! And judging by the stickers in the windshield it is enjoyed!

Insert your tired Smokey and the Bandit joke here, but this one is about as perfect as a black Trans Am gets! It speaks for itself coming in at #3 on our list!

I first ran across Larry Barbay’s gorgeous old school 1968 Camaro many moons ago at a charity car show I ran in Clayton, Georgia. I cannot remember the year but the car won best of show there. I’d say its retro, but I think this one was likely done when this was the style. The over the top paint, cragers, side pipes, even an 8 track player! This one has it all coming in at #2 on our list!

Usually when we put together an article at an event we hunt out cars that catch our attention, with no real idea what the top ten will end up being let alone there order. In fact I put paper to pen on the order this morning before I started writing the article. But to be honest, from the time I looked at it I knew what #1 was going to be. This stunning, black GTA, sitting proud up front and center in the VIP section was it. You’ll have to forgive me I did not catch the owners name, but this car just screams F-body to me! The timeless black and gold look. This car just does it!
